MazTechCentral
Welcome back to MazTechCentral! For the last month, I’ve been living with the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold as my one and only daily phone. If you told me four years ago we’d have a screen this big folding up into our jeans, I would have called you crazy. But after 30 days of real, everyday use, is it actually worth the hype?
The Good, The Bad, and The Heavy
The Galaxy Z TriFold is a device of absolute extremes. Here is what you need to know:
- The Weight: It weighs a massive 309 grams. In your pocket, it feels like a small gold brick.
- The Magic Trick: Unfold its three panels, and it transforms into a massive 10-inch display that is an impossibly thin 3.9 millimeters. It is literally thinner than its own USB-C port!
- The Physical Quirks: The corners are quite sharp and can dig into your palms. Also, due to the massive camera bump, it wobbles constantly when laid flat on a table.
- The Creases: Yes, there are two creases. You will feel them when swiping , but unless the light hits them perfectly, your brain filters them out while watching content.
Performance & Battery
Paired with a foldable Bluetooth keyboard (like the Nillkin I use), this 10-inch screen is a multitasking powerhouse. Running Word, Gmail, and Reddit side-by-side feels like a portable PC.
Powering that huge screen takes juice. The 5,600 mAh battery initially struggled for me, but after optimizing to a single SIM and a 70/30 split between the outer and inner screens, I’m easily ending my day at 11 PM with 20-25% left—yielding about 7 to 8 hours of screen-on time.
Final Verdict
Word on the street is that Samsung has paused active development on the TriFold 2. That turns this 1st-gen device into a rare collector’s piece. It is incredibly expensive and has its quirks, but it is an absolute masterpiece of modern multi-folding tech.
